 The Hebrews' Thanksgiving

Each autumn, on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Tishri a harvest festival called Sukkoth takes place and it lasts 8 days. Sukkoth is named for the huts that Moses and the Israelites lived in as they wandered the desert for 40 days before the reached the Promises Land, these huts were made of branches and were easy to assemble. This feast has been celebrated for over 3000 years. Sukkoth is also called Hag ha Succot and Hag ha Asif.

During the festival, the Jewish people build small huts( succots), which are spaced to
let the light in,of branches in honor of their ancestors. Inside the huts there are  hung fruits and vegetables ( apples, grapes, corn and promegranates ). On the firsts two nights of Sukkoth, the families eat their meals in the hut under the moonlight and 5 days after the beginning or the festival Yom Kippur, the most solemn day of the Jewish year takes place.

The Hebrews' thanksgiving is called Sukkoth (or Hag Ha Sucot and Hag Ha Asif).
Sukkoth is celebrated each Autumn.

A succot in English is a hut (in French: "cabane"). The first 2 nights, the families eat in the evening when the sky is black.
The Israelites made the huts fourty years ago. The huts a
re built with branches and inside there is fruit and vegetable.

The  Chinese celebrated their  festival Chung Ch'ui with the full moon that fell on the 15th August. This day was considered the birthday of the moon and special "moon cakes".  Each cake was stamped with the picture of a rabbit - as it was a rabbit, not a man, which the Chinese saw on the face of the moon.

For thanksgiving the families eat  pig,  fruit and  "moon cakes". It was believed that during the 3rd day festival flowers.

China had been conquered by enemy armies who took control of the Chinese homes and food.  So  they decided to attack the invaders.

The women cooked special moon cakes which were distributed to every family.  Every year moon cakes are eaten in memory of this victory.
